Windrush immigration papers scandal is a big fat GDPR fail for UK.gov

It's probably a given that – with the European Union's GDPR now weeks away – you're sick to the back teeth of hearing, reading and talking about data protection.

And then comes the Windrush scandal in which the UK government apparently destroyed the landing records for thousands of citizens from Caribbean nations who arrived in Britain after the Second World War.

The government's official line has been that to retain the data would have breached the 1998 Data Protection Act and the fourth and fifth principles of the Information Commissioner's Office.      read rest of article.....
